Mayor of Urasoe Eager in Running for Re-Election

Urasoe Mayor, Tetsuji Matsumoto

During the city assembly, current Mayor of Urasoe, Tetsuji Matsumoto, expressed his intent on running for re-election next February. “There are still many tasks left, and cannot be solved within a term. I intend to seek decisions from supporters and citizens and willing to challenge whatever that’s ahead,” he replied to City Councilman Matayoshi.

He was first elected in February 2013 by beating two other candidates, one being the incumbent. Regarding the relocation of Naha military port to Urasoe, he pledged during his campaign for a reconsideration, however, he repealed and accepted the relocation on April 2015. The city’s own proposed plan is currently under review.
